Intermediate Level Diesel ECU Tuning using WinOLS – Salt Lake City, USA – training course detail
Location: Viezu USA / Adrenaline Dyno – Salt Lake City, Utah, USA – 15 minutes from the airport
Dates: 13 to 15 April 2026
Language: Course will be delivered in English
Level: Intermediate
Fuel Type Focus: Diesel only
Software Focus: EVC WinOLS
Viezu Technologies and Viezu Technical Academy return to Salt Lake City for in-person diesel tuning training in 2026.
Lead trainer for this diesel ECU tuning event is renowned UK-based tuner and tuning trainer Simon White – technical director and managing director of Viezu Technologies. This is expert practical training from real-world tuners.
This is an intensive course, pitched at Intermediate level. This will take you from a basic WinOLS user level and build on that, to give you more confidence in your WinOLS diesel tuning and diesel calibration, and higher level skills and techniques that you can use straight away.
This course is not for WinOLS absolute beginners – to get the benefits and full value from this course, you do need some real-world experience of gasoline tuning with WinOLS, and a working knowledge of the software.
If you have already completed Basic level in-class WinOLS training with Viezu, or if you have completed the first 4 Viezu Training Academy online training modules for WinOLS diesel, then you have the knowledge needed for this Salt Lake City in-person course.
If you need any Viezu training to help you prep for this course, then contact us on info@viezu.com or on +44 (0)1789 774444 – we can discuss your requirements and get you set up.
Group sizes are small on our courses, so we can tailor content to your needs. We encourage you to contact the lead trainer Simon White in advance to discuss any specific topics you would like to cover. For example, if you work with particular vehicles or engines, we can include these in our example projects on the course.
Detailed course overview
Day 1 – ECU Structures, Map Strategies & Using Existing Database Files
What’s covered:
- Advanced diesel map relationships (Driver’s Wish, Torque Limiters, Boost, Rail, Smoke)
- How torque flows through the ECU and how limiters interact
- Differences between ECU families (EDC16, EDC17, Delphi, Siemens/Continental)
- Building and organising mappacks and project structures
- Importing and applying changes from existing database files, previous versions and stored projects
- Comparing stock vs tuned files and selectively importing alterations
You will learn:
- How to navigate and understand complex diesel strategies.
- How to identify key maps quickly in different ECU types.
- How to reuse and adapt existing calibrations using WinOLS compare/import tools.
- How to create clean, professional project structures ready for real workflows.
Day 2 – Boost, Rail, Large Turbo/Injector Tuning & Driveability
What’s covered:
- Advanced boost and rail pressure strategies, protectors and safety limits
- Mapping considerations for large turbos (boost shaping, spool, surge control)
- Mapping considerations for larger injectors (IQ, duration scaling, idle stability)
- Adjusting torque, boost and fuel strategies for upgraded hardware
- Driveability tuning: pedal maps, torque shaping, limiter adjustments
You will learn:
- How to map bigger turbos and injectors safely and effectively
- How to adapt boost/fuel strategies to new hardware without causing surge, smoke or lag
- How to produce clean, predictable drivability even with higher-flow components
- How to shape pedal response, torque delivery and limiters for different customer needs (fast road, towing, track)
Day 3 – Full Calibration Workflow, Import Integration & Dyno-Based Refinement
What’s covered:
- Complete end-to-end tuning workflow (diagnostics → mapping → validation)
- Integrating database-stored changes into new projects and adapting them to new SW versions
- Creating structured tuning plans for both stock and hardware-upgraded vehicles
- Reading dyno/log data (boost tracking, rail stability, smoke, spool behaviour)
- Iterative refinement (v1 → v2) based on real-world data
- Final assessment and project documentation
You will learn:
- How to build a full, professional-grade calibration from a raw stock file
- How to import, adapt and verify map changes from your own WinOLS library
- How to adjust and refine your tune using dyno/log data like a professional calibrator
- How to produce final, well-documented WinOLS projects suitable for real clients
Learning outcomes of the course
By the end of the 3 days, you will be able to:
- Confidently navigate and modify diesel ECUs using WinOLS at an intermediate level
- Build and adapt mappacks, import previous calibration data and manage complex projects
- Tune vehicles with stock hardware and upgraded hardware (large turbos & injectors)
- Produce safe, coherent torque/boost/fuel strategies with strong driveability
- Use dyno/log feedback to refine your calibrations professionally
Prerequisites and what you need to bring with you
You need to bring a laptop with genuine up-to-date EVC WinOLS software installed and running smoothly. You will need the full version of WinOLS – the demo version does not have all the features you need for the training.
You can purchase full version WinOLs software on the Viezu Technologies website.
Who this course is for:
- Tuners already using WinOLS actively in a professional environment
- File developers who want to extend their knowledge into calibration services
- Tuning businesses looking to extend their diesel tuning and calibration offerings to higher levels
