Learn Professional WinOLS Workflows for Diesel ECUs from Europe’s Leading Calibration Specialists

WinOLS is software used by professional calibration engineers around the world. Learning to use it effectively requires more than knowing where the maps are.

VIEZU Technologies and VIEZU Technical Academy are holding in-person diesel ECU tuning training in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The lead trainer is Simon White, Technical Director and Managing Director of VIEZU Technologies. This practical, hands-on course is designed for working tuners.

The intensive three-day course covers intermediate to advanced diesel calibration techniques. It builds on your existing WinOLS knowledge and helps you develop a more structured approach to diesel ECU tuning.

Training is delivered in small groups, allowing time for questions and tailored guidance. You can also contact Simon White before the course to request specific engines or ECU types for the practical sessions.

Your Learning Journey

Day One – Diesel ECU Structures, Mappacks & Data Management

The first day focuses on understanding diesel ECU structures and building an effective WinOLS workflow.

You will work with common diesel ECU platforms and learn how to identify map groups, build mappacks and organise your projects.

You’ll cover:

  • Diesel ECU logic and structure across common platforms, including EDC16, EDC17, Siemens and Continental
  • Identifying map groups in WinOLS using 2D and 3D patterns
  • Building, editing and adapting mappacks
  • Importing data from previous calibrations
  • Setting up organised WinOLS project structures

By the end of day one, you’ll know:

  • How diesel ECUs calculate torque, fuel mass, injection timing and boost pressure
  • How to locate core diesel tuning maps using pattern recognition
  • How to structure clean, organised WinOLS project files

Day Two – Calibration Strategies: Stock & Upgraded Hardware

The second day focuses on diesel calibration strategies for standard and modified vehicles.

You will explore how torque, fuel, boost and other calibration systems interact, and how calibration requirements change when hardware is upgraded.

You’ll cover:

  • Torque limiters
  • Smoke maps and lambda
  • Injection duration
  • Fuel rail pressure
  • Boost pressure control
  • Variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT) calibration
  • Calibration for upgraded hardware, including larger turbos and injectors
  • Drivability, smoke control and thermal safety limits

By the end of day two, you’ll know:

  • How to develop Stage 1 calibrations for standard vehicles
  • How to calculate fuel and air requirements for upgraded hardware
  • How torque limiters interact with ECU safety functions
  • How to maintain OEM reliability and drivability under load

Day Three – Log Analysis, Dyno Verification & Workflows

The final day focuses on using data to assess and refine calibrations.

You will learn how to analyse data logs and dynamometer results, identify calibration issues and follow structured pre-tuning and post-calibration checks.

You’ll cover:

  • Analysing data logs and dynamometer test results
  • Identifying and correcting calibration errors
  • Pre-tune vehicle health checks and diagnostic steps
  • Project documentation
  • Version control
  • File exports

By the end of day three, you’ll know:

  • How to use log data to refine map calibrations
  • How to troubleshoot common diesel tuning faults
  • How to perform pre-tuning safety checks on client vehicles
  • How to finalise, document and export files ready for ECU writing

What You’ll Take Away

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

  • Navigate and modify diesel ECU files using EVC WinOLS
  • Build custom mappacks and import external calibration data
  • Develop calibrations for vehicles with standard or modified hardware
  • Create structured torque, boost and fuel strategies while maintaining drivability
  • Use data logs and dyno results to assess and refine ECU calibrations
  • Apply a more structured and repeatable workflow to future diesel tuning projects

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for:

  • Professional tuners using WinOLS who want to develop their diesel tuning skills
  • File developers looking to expand into commercial diesel file writing
  • Business owners wanting to offer higher-level, custom diesel calibration services

This is not a beginner WinOLS course. You should already have practical experience using WinOLS and working with diesel ECU files.

What you’ll need

Please bring a laptop with a genuine, fully licensed and up-to-date installation of EVC WinOLS.

The practical exercises require the full version of the software, as the demonstration version does not include the functionality needed during training.

You can purchase a full, single-user licence from our online store.
