Using WinOLS and StageX together for Diesel ECU Tuning – Magic Motorsport USA HQ, Austin, Texas – training course detail
Location: Magicmotorsport USA HQ, Pflugerville, Austin, Texas, US (25 minutes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport)
Dates: 19 – 21 February 2026
Language: Course will be delivered in English
Level: Beginner-Intermediate
Fuel Type Focus: Diesel only
Software Focus: WinOLS and StageX
Viezu Technologies and Viezu Technical Academy, in partnership with Magicmotorsport, offer this distinctive training course that shows you how you can use Magic StageX to give you user-friendly starting points and validation methods for quicker and easier diesel engine tuning with WinOLS.
If you are in the US, this is your chance to get specialist in-person WinOLS and StageX diesel ECU tuning training from the leading European experts and experts from Magic Motorsport.
You will get time on the dyno in Magic’s fully equipped workshop in Austin, Texas.
The lead trainer for this diesel tuning event is renowned UK-based tuner and tuning trainer Simon White – technical director and managing director of Viezu Technologies. Expert practical training from real-world tuners.
This course is Beginner-Intermediate level. It will build your structured understanding of fundamental concepts and procedures in WinOLS and StageX. You will learn how you can use these software platforms together in a smart way – StageX can be a big help in identifying maps and validating maps in what can be a challenging interface in WinOLS.
Group sizes are small on our courses, so we can tailor content to your needs. We encourage you to contact the lead trainer Simon White in advance to discuss any specific training topics you would like to cover. For example, if you work with particular vehicles or engines, we can include these in our example projects on the course.
Detailed course overview
This intensive 3-day classroom course is designed to take existing tuners from basic map editing to confident, professional-level diesel calibration using WinOLS, supported by map intelligence and workflow assistance from StageX.
Delivered through tutor-led presentations and structured, hands-on workshop sessions, the course focuses on real-world diesel strategies, safe tuning practices, and the repeatable workflows used by professional calibrators.
Day 1 – Diesel Strategies, ECU Structure & Map Identification
What’s covered:
Students begin by mastering how diesel ECUs make decisions: torque → fuel → boost → rail → smoke → protections.
You’ll learn how different ECU families (EDC16, EDC17, Delphi, Siemens) structure their maps and how WinOLS interprets these strategies.
Using StageX and manual verification, students will identify all core diesel maps, build clean mappacks, understand limiter interactions, and learn how to import and adapt existing calibration data using WinOLS Compare/Import tools.
Day 2 – Boost, Rail Pressure, Torque Management & Driveability
What’s covered:
Day 2 focuses on the key elements required for safe and effective diesel calibration on stock hardware. Students will learn how to tune:
- Boost control (VNT & WG strategies)
- Rail pressure targets and protection mechanisms
- Torque limiters, IQ structures and torque modelling
- Smoke limiting and air-fuel balancing
- Pedal response and driveability refinement
Through structured workshop tasks, attendees produce clean, well-balanced calibrations that improve performance while maintaining smooth driveability and controlled emissions behaviour.
Day 3 – Full Calibration Workflow, Import Integration & Practical Refinement
What’s covered:
The final day consolidates all skills into a complete calibration workflow. Students build a full diesel tune from a stock file, including:
- Project planning & mappack completion
- Integrating database calibrations into new software versions
- StageX-supported validation and map coverage checking
- Iterative refinement (v1 → v2) using example dyno/log feedback
- Exporting a fully documented, professional calibration package
By the end of Day 3, participants will have created a complete diesel tune using industry-standard processes.
Learning outcomes of the course
By the end of the 3-day workshop, you will be able to:
- Understand and navigate complex diesel ECU strategies
- Identify, verify and structure essential diesel maps in WinOLS
- Use StageX to support faster, more accurate map discovery
- Build professional-quality mappacks and organised project structures
- Tune torque, boost, rail pressure, fuelling and smoke limiters safely
- Import and adapt database calibrations across software versions
- Produce clean, coherent, client-ready calibration files with documentation
Who this course is for:
Existing tuners who want to advance from basic to intermediate diesel tuning, including those who:
- Already use WinOLS at a beginner level
- Can identify basic maps but want to understand full ECU strategy
- Want to learn structured, safe diesel tuning workflows
- Want to integrate StageX into their daily file development
- Are moving from ‘map editing’ to real calibration-based tuning
- Need a deeper understanding of torque-based diesel systems
Perfect for:
- ECU remapping businesses
- Workshop technicians entering tuning
- Mappers wanting to develop professional calibration skills
- Tuners transitioning from petrol/gasoline to diesel
- Anyone preparing to build reliable in-house diesel files
Prerequisites and what you need to bring with you
You need to bring a laptop with genuine up-to-date EVC WinOLS software and StageX software installed and running smoothly. You will need the full version of WinOLS – the demo version does not have all the features you need for the training.
You can purchase full version WinOLs software and buy StageX software here on the Remap101 website.
To get the benefits and full value from this in-person course, you need a working knowledge of the software. As preparation for this course, we highly recommend that you do our Vizeu Remap101 online training modules – the modules in WinOLS (the first 3 diesel WinOLS modules) and our online modules in StageX (the first 2 diesel modules).
We are always happy to talk with you to discuss your individual training needs, to help you build your tuning skills and grow your tuning and calibration business:
