EVC WinOLS Diesel ECU Tuning Course in Sydney

Develop your diesel ECU calibration skills with VIEZU Technologies

WinOLS is widely used by professional ECU calibration engineers. Using it effectively requires more than knowing where to find maps. You need to understand diesel ECU strategies, how calibration maps interact and how to make controlled changes.

VIEZU Technologies and VIEZU Technical Academy are delivering in-person diesel ECU tuning training in Sydney, Australia.

The lead trainer is Simon White, Technical Director and Managing Director of VIEZU Technologies.

This practical course is designed for working tuners who already have experience with WinOLS. It covers intermediate to advanced diesel calibration techniques and helps you develop your existing knowledge and skills.

Training is delivered in a small group. This allows you to ask questions, discuss specific calibration requirements and get practical guidance throughout the course.

You can also contact Simon White before the course if there are specific engines or ECU types you would like to cover during the practical sessions.

Your three-day learning journey

Day 1: Diesel ECU structures, mappacks and data management

The first day focuses on understanding diesel ECU structures and setting up an organised WinOLS workflow.

You will learn how to identify map groups, work with mappacks and manage calibration data.

You will learn about:

  • diesel ECU logic and structure across common platforms, including EDC16, EDC17, Siemens and Continental
  • identifying map groups in WinOLS using 2D and 3D patterns
  • building, editing and adapting mappacks
  • importing data from previous calibrations
  • setting up structured WinOLS projects

By the end of day one, you will understand:

  • how diesel ECUs calculate torque, fuel mass, injection timing and boost pressure
  • how to locate core diesel tuning maps using pattern recognition
  • how to structure clean and organised WinOLS project files

Day 2: Diesel calibration strategies and upgraded hardware

The second day focuses on calibration strategies for both standard and modified vehicles.

You will look at how fuel, torque, boost and smoke control strategies interact and how calibration requirements change when vehicle hardware is modified.

You will learn about:

  • torque limiters
  • smoke maps and lambda
  • injection duration
  • fuel rail pressure
  • boost pressure control
  • variable-geometry turbocharger (VGT) calibration
  • calibration for upgraded hardware, including larger turbos and injectors
  • drivability
  • smoke control
  • thermal safety limits

By the end of day two, you will understand:

  • how to write Stage 1 calibrations for standard vehicles
  • how to calculate fuel and air requirements for upgraded hardware
  • how to modify torque limiters without disabling ECU safety functions
  • how to maintain OEM reliability and drivability under load

Day 3: Log analysis, dyno verification and calibration workflows

The final day focuses on checking and refining your calibration work.

You will learn how to use data logs and dynamometer results to assess a calibration, identify problems and make informed changes.

You will learn about:

  • analysing data logs
  • analysing dynamometer test results
  • identifying and correcting calibration errors
  • pre-tune vehicle health checks
  • diagnostic steps
  • project documentation
  • version control
  • file exports

By the end of day three, you will understand:

  • how to use log data to refine map calibrations
  • how to troubleshoot common diesel tuning faults
  • how to perform pre-tuning safety checks on client vehicles
  • how to finalise, document and export files ready for ECU writing

What you will take away

After the course, you will have developed your ability to:

  • navigate and modify diesel ECU files using EVC WinOLS
  • build custom mappacks and import external calibration data
  • develop calibrations for standard and modified vehicle hardware
  • create torque, boost and fuel strategies while maintaining drivability
  • use data logs and dyno results to refine ECU calibrations
  • organise and document your calibration projects

The course is designed to help you develop a more structured approach to diesel ECU calibration that you can apply to future projects.

Who this course is for

This course is aimed at experienced WinOLS users who want to develop their diesel ECU tuning skills.

It is suitable for:

  • professional tuners using WinOLS who want to advance their diesel tuning skills
  • ECU file developers looking to expand into commercial diesel file writing
  • business owners who want to offer higher-level, custom diesel calibration services

This is not an introductory WinOLS course. You should already have practical experience using WinOLS and working with diesel ECU files.

Is this course right for you?

Before booking, consider whether you:

  • have completed beginner-level WinOLS diesel training or have equivalent hands-on experience
  • currently tune diesel vehicles using WinOLS on a regular basis
  • understand diesel map structures, mappacks and project organisation
  • have experience working with Bosch EDC16, EDC17, Siemens or Continental ECUs

If you can answer yes to these questions, this course may be suitable for your current level of experience.

If you are unsure, contact VIEZU Technical Academy before booking. We can discuss your existing knowledge and help you identify the right training pathway.

You can also contact Simon White before the course if you have specific engines or ECU types you would like to discuss for the practical sessions.

What happens during the course?

The course is practical and focused on the work involved in diesel ECU calibration.

You will start by looking at ECU structures, map groups and data management.

You will then work through calibration strategies for standard and modified hardware. This includes torque, fuelling, boost, smoke and thermal strategies.

On the final day, you will use log data and dynamometer results to understand how calibration changes can be assessed and refined.

Throughout the three days, you will have opportunities to ask questions and discuss specific calibration requirements with your trainer.

The small-group format allows the training to focus on the areas that are most relevant to the people attending.
