Always double and triple check your connections, a single power or earth connection being on the wrong pin on an ECU is enough to damage the ECU normally leaving the only option to purchase a new or replacement one for the vehicle.
This is the same for any contact you make on the circuit board or the ECU pins. For circuit board connections it is very important to not only double check the connection on the right connector pad on the board or track, but to also make sure the connection is clean and to not damage anything around the connection point on the circuit board whilst making the contact with the circuit board.
