Using WinOLS and StageX together for Gasoline ECU Tuning – Magic Motorsport USA HQ, Austin, Texas – training course detail
Location: Magicmotorsport USA HQ, Pflugerville, Austin, Texas, US (25 minutes from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport)
Dates: 16 – 18 February 2026
Language: Course will be delivered in English
Level: Beginner-Intermediate
Fuel Type Focus: Gasoline only
Software Focus: WinOLS and StageX
Viezu Technologies and Viezu Technical Academy, in partnership with Magicmotorsport, offer this distinctive training course that shows you how you can use Magic StageX to give you user-friendly starting points and validation methods for faster and easier gasoline tuning with WinOLS.
If you are in the US, this is your chance to get specialist in-person WinOLS and StageX gasoline ECU tuning training from the leading European experts and experts from Magic Motorsport.
You will get time on the dyno in Magic’s fully equipped workshop in Austin, Texas.
The lead trainer for this gasoline tuning event is renowned UK-based tuner and tuning trainer Simon White – technical director and managing director of Viezu Technologies. Expert practical training from real-world tuners.
This course is Beginner-Intermediate level. It will build your structured understanding of fundamental concepts and procedures in WinOLS and StageX. You will learn how you can use these software platforms together in a smart way – StageX can be a big help in identifying maps and validating maps in the ‘blank canvas’ of WinOLS.
Group sizes are small on our courses, so we can tailor content to your needs. We encourage you to contact the lead trainer Simon White in advance to discuss any specific training topics you would like to cover. For example, if you work with particular vehicles or engines, we can include these in our example projects on the course.
Detailed course overview
Day 1 – ECU Fundamentals, Map Structures & WinOLS/StageX Foundations
What’s covered:
- Overview of gasoline ECU logic focusing on Bosch MED, MG1/MD1, and SIMOS platforms
- Core calibration groups: load/airflow, torque, spark, knock, AFR/lambda
- Understanding typical gasoline map shapes, axes and units
- Using WinOLS for project creation, map searching, 2D/3D interpretation and data organisation
- Using StageX to support identification of map names, factors, axes and conversion to tuneable values
- Creating clean project structures including mappacks, comments and map grouping
You will learn:
- How Bosch MED/MG1 and SIMOS ECUs calculate load, airflow and ignition strategies
- How to quickly identify key gasoline tuning maps using WinOLS and StageX together
- How to apply correct map naming, axis interpretation and factor usage to convert raw data into meaningful values
- How to build structured and organised calibration projects ready for further tuning
Day 2 – Core Tuning Strategies: AFR, Spark, Knock & Torque Control
What’s covered:
- AFR/lambda control concepts: stoichiometric control, power enrichment, catalyst protection
- Spark advance strategy, octane indexing and knock control fundamentals
- Torque and driver-request logic: driver wish, maximum torque limiters, load/airflow requests
- Understanding typical axis structures for gasoline maps (RPM, load, temp)
- Safe beginner–intermediate map editing principles
- Practical workshop: students identify maps in StageX and manually validate/edit them in WinOLS
You will learn:
- How to adjust lambda, spark, load and torque maps safely and correctly
- How to understand the relationship between AFR, knock control and spark timing
- Recognising expected map shapes and interpolation behaviour
- How to apply real-world tuning adjustments for Stage 1 and mild Stage 2 (high-flow cat) setups
Day 3 – Full Calibration Workflow, Importing Changes & Final Build
What’s covered:
- Complete stock → tuned workflow using WinOLS and StageX.
- Analysing existing tuned files and selectively importing changes from database projects
- Adapting map data across similar software versions (e.g., MED to MED variant, SIMOS to SIMOS variant)
- Mild Stage 2 calibration considerations for high-flow catalytic converters (no advanced hardware)
- Professional project management: mappacks, comments, version control, and file finalisation
- Practical workshop: build a complete calibration using structured map edits and selective import
You will learn:
- How to construct a full, safe calibration from the original read file through to the completed tune
- How to use database files to import and adapt tuning changes efficiently
- How to document, structure and version-control a professional WinOLS project
- How to confidently produce Stage 1 and mild Stage 2 high-flow cat calibrations without requiring dyno/log analysis
Learning outcomes of the course
By the end of the 3-day workshop, you will be able to:
- Identify and understand the key gasoline maps used in Bosch MED/MG1 and SIMOS ECUs
- Use WinOLS effectively alongside StageX for rapid map discovery and factor verification
- Modify AFR, spark, torque and load maps with safe, structured methods suitable for commercial tuning
- Build clean, well-organised calibration projects with correct naming, grouping and documentation
- Deliver complete, reliable Stage 1 and mild Stage 2 calibrations ready for real-world use
Who this course is for:
✔ New or Early-Stage WinOLS users —
People who have basic familiarity with ECU tuning but want structured training to understand WinOLS properly, including map identification, map editing and project organisation.
✔ StageX users wanting deeper technical understanding —
Anyone who currently relies on StageX for automated map detection but wants to learn why maps work the way they do and how to validate them manually.
✔ Beginner to Intermediate gasoline tuners —
Tuning enthusiasts or workshop technicians who want to learn safe and repeatable tuning methods for Bosch MED, MG1/MD1 and SIMOS platforms—without needing dyno/log knowledge.
✔ Workshops bringing calibration work in-house —
Garages and performance shops who want staff trained to build correct Stage 1 and mild Stage 2 (high-flow cat) calibrations rather than outsourcing work.
✔ Self-taught tuners looking for professional structure —
Those who have experimented with editing files but lack formal training and want to learn the correct workflow, map structure, safe editing practices and professional project management.
✔ ECU file providers and remapping start-ups —
Individuals or companies building a tuning file service and needing a solid foundation in gasoline ECU logic, map strategies and WinOLS workflows.
✔ Anyone seeking a career in ECU calibration —
A perfect entry point for those moving towards professional tuning or preparing for more advanced WinOLS or dyno-based training.
Prerequisites and what you need to bring with you
You need to bring a laptop with genuine up-to-date EVC WinOLS software and StageX software installed and running smoothly. You will need the full version of WinOLS – the demo version does not have all the features you need for the training.
You can purchase full version WinOLs software and buy StageX software here on the Remap101 website.
To get the benefits and full value from this in-person course, you need a working knowledge of the software. As preparation for this course, we highly recommend that you do our Vizeu Remap101 online training modules – the modules in WinOLS (the first 3 gasoline WinOLS modules) and our online modules in StageX (the first 2 gasoline modules).
We are always happy to talk with you to discuss your individual training needs, to help you build your tuning skills and grow your tuning and calibration business:
