Module 1: Set up and understand EVC WinOLS

Your training starts with the fundamentals of working with EVC WinOLS.
Learn how to download, install and correctly configure WinOLS 5, before getting familiar with the interface and its core functions. This gives you the foundation needed to work confidently through the more technical stages that follow.
The course uses a genuine BMW diesel ECU file, allowing you to follow the trainer using real ECU calibration data rather than learning the software entirely in theory.
Module 2: Projects, files and WinOLS terminology

Move beyond the interface and start learning how WinOLS is used to manage real tuning projects.
You will learn how to correctly open projects, understand important WinOLS terminology and navigate the functions used during file development and tuning.
The original BMW E9 320d file used during training is supplied, giving you the opportunity to work alongside the trainer and put the processes into practice yourself.

Now you begin moving deeper into the calibration data itself.
Module 3 introduces the practical application of WinOLS to diesel tuning, including common diesel engine map types and the typical sizes and structures you can expect to encounter.
This stage begins developing the knowledge needed to recognise useful calibration data within an ECU file, an essential skill when moving towards independent file writing.
Module 4: Turn ECU data into useful tuning information

Module 4 is a major step forward and is split across two VTA modules due to the depth of the subject.
You will move deeper into ECU data management, learning how a professional tuner identifies, labels and converts raw ECU data into information that can be used for calibration work.
Across Parts A and B, you will develop your understanding of defining map data and map pack development, building the skills needed to organise useful calibration maps inside WinOLS.
This extended section contains four lessons and approximately four hours of study across its two parts.

Module 5: Understand map relationships and find tuning potential

With a stronger understanding of ECU data and maps, Module 5 begins connecting that information to actual tuning strategy.
You will study the relationships between different map types and learn how to establish the stock values and limitations contained within an ECU calibration.
The module explores how tables and axes can provide clues to the available tuning potential, how to select common reference points between maps and how torque can be increased beyond standard values.
This is where the earlier work identifying and understanding maps starts becoming directly applicable to developing a tuned calibration.
Module 6: Start modifying the calibration

The final stage is again divided into two parts, giving you the time needed to work through the actual modification process in detail.
You will begin making changes to the original ECU file and learn a structured approach to calibration modification.

- peak torque and optimum torque
- torque limiter modification
- saving file versions with appropriate notes
- maintaining consistency across related maps
- turbo pressure modification
- start of injection angle
